I'm sure not many of you are interested, but I felt like posting a few of these, quite personal (and possibly pretentious) poems that I wrote.
Feel free to comment, but try for constructive criticism, if you wouldn't mind. Also, I''m posting them one at a time over a few entries, because it's clearer to me that way.
Celebrity in Death
There's no dignity
in dying
these days.
A road traffic accident,
the Victim
covered by a sheet.
Blood everywhere.
A police cordon,
three officers, one car, two ambulances
sirens wailing blue light,
inviting all to
stop, and
stare.
And they do.
A crowd gathers.
An old woman
gawks with her friend;
"Oh, it's horrible."
Bus drivers
slow
as they pass.
Everyone gets
an eyeful.
As the truth of our own brief
mortality
creeps quietly by,
another is lost to
fate.
And we remark on the scene,
driven by
morbid curiosity, human fascination with the
horror
of those less fortunate.
There is, it seems, celebrity in death.
